Effective Scrubs That DON’T Contain Microbeads

If you don’t know aready, microbeads are small plastic particles that are found in face and body scrubs, face washes, shower gels, make-up and some toothpastes. Microbeads cause severe water pollution and are being ingested by marine life and therefore entering the food chain. The need to take action has become increasingly important. Progress has been made though, and President Obama recently passed a law banning the sale of cosmetic products containing microbeads, due to take effect in 2017!

If you want to avoid products that contain microbeads, make sure they don’t list polyethylene as an ingredient. Here is my recommendations of the best scrubs that DON’T contain microbeads.

Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub, The Body Shop, £7 – This is my regular go-to scrub that I use on my face twice a week. It has a strong but pleasant tea tree smell and feels fresh on the skin. It not only exfoliates and clears pores but the tea tree acts to shrink pores as well. Highly recommended for both results and value for money. The plastic microbeads have been replaced by a natural biodegradable equivalent.

Ocean Salt Alcohol Free Face and Body Scrub, LUSH, £7.25 – This scrub uses sea salt as a gentle exfoliator. Along with the sea salt it also contains grapefruit, lime and coconut which produces an amazingly fresh smell and feel. I love the pretty blue colour as well, really reminds you of the ocean! Gives a soft moisturised result.

Coffee Face and Body Scrub, Grounded, £8.95-£15 – Coffee scrubs are the new ‘in’ beauty trend and the main reason is that they actually work. I love this particular company because they are UK based, the packaging is inviting and the scrubs come in a variety of ‘flavours’. I love using the coconut scrub as a body exfoliator and the tea tree and lemon scrub on my face. My skin feels soft and looks healthy since using it. I love the smell of these scrubs, but it can be a bit messy! Added bonus is that it is said to improve the look of cellulite and stretch marks!

Recharge Black Pepper Bodyscrub Bar, Molton Brown, £13 – This product is slightly on the pricey side, but with Molton Brown, you get what you pay for. I really like the idea of a bar as I think it would be quicker and easier than a conventional scrub, you can just hop in the shower and exfoliate as you go. The bar will also last longer, as there is no risk of using more than is needed. I have used black pepper scented Molton Brown products before and the smell is always amazing and lasts all day, I love that they have used actual black pepper corns to act as the abrasive material.

Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub, Burt’s Bees, £11.49 – This scrub is great because it is 99.9% natural and comes in an easy to use squeeze tube. It smells and feels amazing, it is a really soft exfoliation, not harshly abrasive. Great for oily skin as it really does deep clean and leaves a natural glow. They have used ground peach stones instead of microbeads.

Hope this has helped you make the right choices when it comes to scrubs, all the above mentioned companies do not test on animals or use microbeads!

Em xx
