Review: Glossybox UK June 2020

There are so many subscription boxes out there, especially when it comes to beauty and make-up. I have been an on-off subscriber of many for several years including the popular UK boxes Birchbox and Glossybox.

Reasons for cancelling subscriptions have either been about money and affordability or getting a series of boring or irrelevant products leading me to cancel. However, having recently signed up to Glossybox UK again, I am thoroughly impressed and felt I needed to right a review to tell you how much I am in LOVE with June’s Glossybox!

Glossybox is priced at £13.95 including delivery and each box has a different theme and contains 5 products. The products are all centred around beauty but can be skincare, make-up and even accessories, so you get a varied range of products. The main reason I was so impressed with this month’s box was that all 5 products were FULL SIZE! The theme was ‘World of Beauty‘, so all products were from brands across the world, giving even more opportunity to discover brilliant new products.

The packaging is also beautiful. I use the box afterwards to create draw dividers for my makeup table and they work really well. It comes in tissue paper and ribbon, with a guide on how to use each of the products and where they come from.

The first product in the box was from The Vintage Cosmetic Company and was a box of 2 full sized makeup removing cloths. I can’t believe how brilliantly soft and effective these are! They are so gentle on the skin but were as effective as any other cloth or flannel I have used. This brand is from the UK, are cruelty free and their packaging is recyclable. I think the adorable design is brilliant and they can be machined washed. Would definitely continue using and will buy again, especially as the box also comes with a 25% off discount code! These are priced at £7.99.

The second product is this amazing metallic liquid eyeshadow from ModelCo which is an Australian brand. I was blown away by this product, just look at that colour!!! Again, this is a full sized product and retails for £15 – so we have already made up the cost of the box! I have never really tried a liquid eyeshadow as I thought they would be oily and crease on the lid, however having tried this one I am converted. It is super smooth on the lid and dries quickly, meaning you can blend with other eyeshadows. The pigment is to die for and really goes with my brown eyes and lasted all day with no smudging! Brilliant value and is a cruelty free and vegan brand.

Another eye product in the box was this double ended black eyeliner from Huda Beauty, created by Iraqi-American Huda Kattan. One end is a liquid eyeliner and the other is a pencil, this retails at a whopping £18! I use eyeliner everyday to frame my tiny eyes so was excited to try this product. Both the liquid liner and the pencil was extremely easy to apply with no mess or fuss, the wand felt comfortable to hold and get a smooth line. I would use the pencil for my everyday makeup look. However, I think the liquid liner would be best used for sports and occasions when wearing all day and into the night. I found the liquid one to be very difficult to wash off, with it still holding on even after using an oil cleasing wash, a micellar water and regular soap and water! On one hand this is brilliant as it doesn’t shift and smudge during the day, but on the other hand I really wouldn’t want to be scrubbing my eyes like that after every day! Is a beautiful product and will definitely use just in different ways.

Also in the box were these eyeshadow pencils from LASplash Cosmetics founded in LA. Again, these are full sized and retail at £15 for both. These are wonderfully soft brushes and are 2 of the staple brush types for basic eye makeup. They are simple but elegant and comfortable to hold. Although, I found them to be very light and I prefer brushes to feel a bit more robust and luxurious. But they do a wonderful job and I think is a good price compared to other brands of similar style and quality. I would definitely use them for everyday makeup but nothing special or that I haven’t seen before.

The final product in this month’s box was from Beataniq Beauty and is a full sized pack of Guardian Angel eye gels. These retail at £4.72 per individual pack and are absolutely gorgeous as they are in the shape of angel wings!! I was initially a little confused as they had a different eye mask from a different brand listed in my product guide. I think they have had issues with suppliers etc due to COVID19 and therefore had to substitute another brand. I believe this one is a US brand as I can only find it with US suppliers. The one I was meant to get in the box was from a British brand, natura, which would have been nice. But I will forgive them due to these gorgeously cute gels! Cute packaging, good price and lovely scent. Nothing special compared to other brands in terms of results – but would buy again just to have angel wings!

So, there you have it! £60.71 worth of full sized beauty products for only £13.95!

I am very impressed with this box and feel that Glossybox have stepped up their game to compete with similar subscription boxes. Beautiful packaging and a wide variety of products, all of which I would use! I will definitely keep my subscription and see what next month brings. Well done Glossybox UK! If you want to check them out then their website is here.

Em xx
